Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, or else known as Samsung Galaxy Bloom, is the Korean smartphone company’s continuation to the Samsung Galaxy Fold. As a clamshell expected to hit shelves in 2020, it’s also a direct competitor to the headline-grabbing Motorola Razr.
Though, whereas the Razr depends on its nostalgic design, with a thick bezel chin and retro aesthetics, all accounts claim Samsung is going in a different, more contemporary direction with its Galaxy Z Flip. Shortly after a few low-res photos of the prototype phone in the wild, a new digital render displays a potential final design, in two different colorways than we’ve seen till now.
Render artist TechConfigurations has drawn up a new video based on the series of rumours, leaks, and photos we’ve heard so far. They have also added a list of purported specs, including camera details and a small secondary display. Check out the video below:
Having just seen the leaked in-development black model, the phone looks incredible in both sky-blue and red colourways. Instead of keeping the retro design of an older flip-phone, the Galaxy Z Flip has embraced a traditional smartphone design that only folds in on itself wallet-fashion. It’s attractive, although the final result does look a little like a GameBoy Advance SP.
The dual-camera at the front, which TechConfigurations has listed as packing 12MP and 16MP sensors, are connected by a small back display showing the date, time, battery life and notifications. Rather than centring the back display similar to the Razr, the Z-Flip design has minimized it, positioning it in the right-hand corner of the sealed rear of the phone.

A Samsung Galaxy Note 10-style punch-hole selfie camera said to enclose a 10MP camera, completes the triple-camera setup. Totally unfolded (referred to as “media mode”) the 6.7″ AMOLED face of the phone is featuring an under-screen fingerprint sensor.
The phone is assumed to be using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, a processor that’s a remarkable improvement on the average Snapdragon 710 the Razr is donning. Though, given that folding phones are still in their initial stages, using premium parts at this stage is expected to drive up the initial cost of the phone by a substantial margin.
Will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip succeed to pack specs equal to current-gen phones while keeping an affordable price point? Odder things have happened. Any way, it won’t be long till we find out, as Samsung Galaxy Unpacked, where the phone is expected to be unveiled, is just a few weeks away.
