Connectivity Options

Samsung Gear S Smartwatch

Samsung Gear S Smartwatch

The most important feature of the Samsung Gear S smartwatch is that it has its own SIM card slot. This means that it can operate on its own 3G network. The Samsung Gear S can also pair with a smartphone for Internet access, but it can also effectively utilize its own network for connectivity. This feature makes the Samsung Gear S stand out from the crowd.

The Operating System

The Samsung Gear S runs on the Tizen Operating System. The Gear Live, released earlier, had Google’s Android Wear, but Samsung has recently been seen to be switching to its own Tizen OS. Tizen is fully controlled by Samsung, unlike Android OS, which is under the rules and regulations of Google. The Galaxy Gear, originally powered by android, will now run on Tizen. Also, the Gear 2 and the Gear 2 Neo released earlier this year will also make use of Tizen OS as their operating system.

The Samsung Gear S can be used to answer calls. You need to forward your calls from your smartphone to your smartwatch and then can forego your handset. The Samsung Gear S can also make calls and send messages on its own. The Samsung Gear S will not feature the Google Now app, but has GPS. There are loads of fitness and health sensors paired up with the Samsung S health features. The Nike+ Running App and Facebook is supported. The Samsung Gear S will use the HERE Maps from Nokia for pedestrian navigation. A fast FT app is also present from The Financial Times. The Samsung Gear S uses Bluetooth v4.1 to pair up with your smartphone and syncs with it.

External Looks

The Samsung Gear S looks good from the outside. The smartwatch features a 2″ super AMOLED curved touchscreen with condensed font. The straps are changeable and come in Black or White. The Samsung Gear S is dust and water resistant.

The Samsung Gear S carries 4 GB of internal memory for music and apps. The battery has a capacity of 300 mAh that Samsung claims will last for up to 2 days. The Samsung Gear S is powered by a 1 GHz dual core processor coupled with 512 MB of RAM.
