Confirmtkt- An App To Get Confirmed Train Ticket
Booking a confirmed train ticket is often a difficult task. That feeling when you miss your journey just because your ticket is still in the waiting list is something most of us have gone through. To ease up your ticket booking, many new start-ups have come up with apps that can predict the likelihood of getting a confirmed ticket. Trainman, Ixigo, and Confirmtkt are all new travel booking start-ups which work on the hot new hack of train waiting list prediction using the historical IRCTC booking data and tell you the best train option which you have to take to reach your destination.
Confirmtkt is a Bengaluru based start up founded in 2014 by Sripad Vaidya and Dinesh Kumar, two ex-IBMers who were frequent train travellers to Hyderabad. Being one of the busiest train routes in India, getting ticket in this route is very difficult. This made them think about finding a solution to this problem and to get confirmed tickets every time which resulted with the startup. The algorithm for the same was developed by Vaidya, and Kumar implemented the algorithm. After testing it internally for a couple of years, the app service went live as website on 5th July 2014, and later the app version also got launched.
The prediction accuracy of confirmtkt was 78 percent at the time of its launch. Later, machine learning was introduced by which when each time the prediction went wrong, the system understood the mistakes and corrected itself. “It’s a continuous process, and the prediction accuracy is 90 percent now. Where it does go wrong, is when it says there is no or medium chance of confirmation, and when it gets confirmed, but it doesn’t happen the other way around. When we give a green signal, we get it right 98 out of hundred times,” says Pranav Chimulkar, Head of Marketing and Growth at Confirmktkt.
Recently, they have come up with a game changing feature called Alternates. Rolled out in first half of August, this new feature is a step ahead of prediction algorithms. The company claims the new feature can exponentially increase the chance of getting a confirmed ticket. “Instead of point A to point B – there’s a possibility of booking from A to X, and from X to B. Within the same train, you just have to book two tickets, and it gets confirmed.” explains Chimulkar. “The second alternative is to book to a further point C, and get down at B.”
Even when getting a confirmed ticket is difficult, in Indian railways, almost 57 percent of the seats go wasted. This happens not from end to end of the whole train journey, but during some point in the middle as not everyone travels from the start to end of the journey. The new feature tries to capitalise on this available inventory of vacant train seats. The company is coming up with many more new features which are in the line up.
The app is now having more than 1.2 lakh average monthly users, and the users are getting doubled in every quarter. The users would still need to visit IRCTC official website to complete the ticket booking. Confirmtkt app is available for Android and Windows phone. The iOS version of the app is also going to be launched soon.
